Where Is This Water Around My AC Coming From?

Delivering Quality Comfort to the Homes and Businesses of Hartford County and New Haven County

It may not get as intensely hot here in Connecticut as it does in the southwest, but that doesn't mean that you can live comfortably without a great performance from your air conditioner during the hottest time of the year. If you are serious about cooling your home efficiently, effectively, and reliably, you need to make sure that your AC is in great working condition. That means scheduling routine air conditioning maintenance, of course, but it also means scheduling prompt air conditioning repairs in West Hartford, CT when something goes wrong with your system. If, for instance, you see water pooling around your unit, contact us right away.

Where Does the Water Come From? Where Should It Go?

Your air conditioner does not actually use water in the cooling process, so pooling water around your air conditioning system is not exactly a leak, per se. What does happen during the cooling process, though, is that humidity is drawn out of the air in your home. That humidity needs to be drained out your residence, which is why your air conditioning system has a condensate drain line and drain pan in its design. When operating properly, this drain assembly will whisk the condensate out of your home reliably. If that drain line is backed up, though, or even if the drain pan is misaligned, the water may instead wind up all over your floor.

Of course, the water that you are seeing could also be the result of ice melting off of your air conditioning system. This is potentially indicative of a much more serious problem. If your system is leaking refrigerant, for instance, your evaporator coil may freeze up. As the ice that it accumulates melts, it may leak into your home. You could also just have a very dirt air filter, which is reducing airflow over the coil and leading to the icing.

Whatever the issue may be, you can count on Dynamic Mechanical Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning to diagnose and resolve it successfully.
