Why Is My Furnace Doing (Blank)?

[furnace]We would hate to disappoint our customers, and we absolutely never do in terms of the quality of the service that we provide. That being said, there are some rather disappointing facts out there that we, as consumers, have to face. One of them is the fact that there is simply no such thing as a 100% reliable heating system. At some point, for instance, you'll find yourself in need of professional furnace repair in West Hartford, CT.

When you do find yourself in such a position, it is important that you schedule any necessary repairs ASAP. The longer that you put those repairs off, the more serious any problems with your furnace are likely to become. Fortunately for you, we've put together this post! In it, you'll learn about some of the red flags that your furnace is in trouble. Not every problem is serious, but every problem does deserve your immediate attention and, in some cases, that of a trained professional.

Running in Short Bursts

The fact that your furnace is up and running does not mean that it is running properly. This is never more clear than when your furnace is short cycling. Now, you may not think that this is that big of a problem. The furnace is running, after all, and it is still heating the house, right? Not that well, but hey, at least it's functional.

The truth is that short cycling could be indicative of a serious problem. Faulty thermocouples (or actual unsafe combustion conditions), malfunctioning thermostats, oversized equipment, and more could all be to blame. Check to make sure that your air filter is clean, so you know it's not just a matter of restricted airflow. If it is, then give us a call.

Making Strange Sounds

Don't just look for signs of trouble. Listen for them as well. You may hear your furnace cycling on. You may even hear the heated air whooshing through your air ducts a bit. You should not hear much louder sounds than usual, though, or strange new sounds developing.

If your furnace is screeching, you may have worn belts. If it's booming, you could be looking at a delayed ignition issue. Is it grinding or banging? Insufficient lubrication, loose components, imbalanced blower wheel mount—any number of issues could be at play. Don't ignore them and allow your system to be damaged!

Blowing Cool Air

You can ignore a lot of problems with your heater. You shouldn't, obviously, but people are pretty good at convincing themselves that obvious problems aren't "that serious." Of course, a problem like a heater blowing cold air is not such a problem.

If your furnace is blowing cold air, there could be an issue with the burner failing to generate enough heater. The fan could fail to force air through your home effectively. Maybe your ducts are leaking. Whatever the case, count on our team to figure out precisely what is wrong and to resolve the problem completely.
