Common Ductwork Repair Issues

Ductwork is a major part of your air conditioning system. But because ductwork is not readily visible, developing and existing problems can be hard to detect. Like any other part of your air conditioning system, your ductwork can wear-out from regular use. And if you haven’t had maintenance or cleaning performed on your ductwork in Southington, there may be problems of which you are unaware. Faulty ductwork can result in air loss of up to 30%. Following are some of the more common ductwork repairs we see at Dynamic Mechanical Heating & Air Conditioning:

  • Leaks – leaks can develop in your ductwork when the seals between the sections of venting break, or when holes and cracks develop. Leaks not only allow conditioned air to escape from the airway, they also allow outside air in, diluting the conditioned air that gets delivered into your home.

  • Lack of insulation – ductwork can be affected by outside temperature, particularly if it is placed close to an exterior wall. As such, the duct can be cold in winter and warm in the summer – the exact opposite of what you need. The best way to protect against this is to make sure your ducts are insulated properly.

  • Obstructions – dust, dirt, debris – even pests – can get into your ductwork and cause a blockage. A blockage that is big enough can restrict airflow as well as decrease indoor air quality. Removing the obstruction and thoroughly cleaning the vent can help alleviate these problems.

  • Disconnected/loose ducts – ductwork is made and installed in sections, so it is not uncommon for these sections to loosen and disconnect. When the sections loosen and/or disconnect, they need to be reconnected and resealed.
