AC Issue Warning Signs: Strange Sounds

Your air conditioner is obviously not going to operate totally silently. No mechanical system does. That being said, you should have a general idea of just how noisy your system is when you are using it. If you start to notice that your air conditioner in Farmington, CT is making more noise than usual, or if it is making strange sounds that you’ve never heard before, contact us right away.

The longer that you ignore any potential problems with your air conditioning system, the more likely it becomes that your system will suffer serious damages. Keep your eyes and your ears open. When anything seems to be out of the ordinary, we’ll be able to diagnose the problem and resolve it entirely.

One of the most alarming sounds that you may hear coming from your air conditioner is loud banging or clanging. This generally indicates that a component within your system has worked itself loose of its mount. When this happens, that component itself is put at risk, as well as those other components that it is coming into contact with. You also could have branches that have fallen into the outdoor unit, or other debris that has found its way in. Whatever the case, you need to have the problem resolved ASAP.

Hissing is another sound that you really don’t want to hear coming from your air conditioner. If you can hear hissing, it could be the sound of refrigerant escaping from your system. Because your air conditioner requires a certain amount of refrigerant in order to function properly, you will likely wind up paying more for a weaker performance from your system. You also put the compressor at risk by allowing the leak to continue. Alternatively, you could also be hearing air escaping from your ductwork, if it is leaking.

Finally, keep your ears open for screeching. If your AC sounds like a banshee having a bad day, you could have insufficiently lubricated components in your system. You could also have a slipped fan belt, or some other relatively minor issue. The only way that you can prevent any unnecessary damages to your system is to have any and all issues professionally evaluated as soon as you can.
